1. Keep a journal and list the foods and beverages you consume each day. If a headache develops, mark a star next to what preceded it.
2. Eliminate those suspect foods from your diet and see what brings relief.
3. Reintroduce each suspect food or beverage, one at a time, at intervals. Make a note if a reintroduced food or beverage triggers a headache.
4. Drink six to eight glasses of water a day. Dehydration is a common cause of headaches.
5. Look for a common factor. Many foods and beverages contain a compound called tyramine which causes high blood pressure and triggers migraines.
Alcohol, chocolate and aged foods contain tyramine.
